The Senators had to make do with a backup for the remainder of their outing against the Oilers.
Ottawa goaltender Linus Ullmark exited the game against the Edmonton Oilers Sunday night after suffering an upper-body injury, with the team later announcing that he would not return.
Ullmark played the entirety of the first period, allowing one goal on seven shots, but didn't return to the ice for the start of the second. He was replaced by Leevi Meriläinen for the remainder of the game.
It's unclear when he may have suffered his injury, but post-game head coach Travis Green told reporters that the goaltender's back had tightened up.
Ullmark, 31, has been strong for the Senators in his first year in Canada's capital, logging a 12-7-2 record with a 2.37 goals-against average and .916 save percentage.
The Senators traded for the netminder in the off-season, sending a 2024 first-round pick, centre Mark Kastelic and goaltender Joonas Korpisalo to the Bruins in exchange for his services.
The team then agreed to a four-year, $33 million contract extension with Ullmark, as his former deal was set to expire after this season.
Following their 3-1 loss to the Oilers, Ottawa is currently 18-14-2 and in fifth place in the Atlantic division.
